Young GM Xiong has been picking up award after award in the USCL, and he does it again here with a second place finish in Game of the Year, in a game which was epitomized simply for strong, yet simple looking play, defeating a strong GM with the Black pieces with seeming ease

Definitely one of the more unique games in the contest and that definitely caught the eyes of the judges who were impressed by GM Nyzhnyk’s skillful maneuvering as well as his nice exchange sacrifice which helped him break through

The final draw left and one of the other few endgames in the contest just misses out on the Top Five, but managed this high ranking via the judges generally being impressed by the high level of play.
