Arizona Scorpions

Welcome to the homepage of the 2008 expansion team, the Arizona Scorpions. Arizona is the first multi-city team in the USCL as they play some of their matches in Tucson and the others in Phoenix.

The defending regular season Western Division Champions come into 2011 bearing a very similar roster as 2010, with eight of their team members being veterans from last season.

Having been so successful in 2010, really dominating the Western Division for much of the regular season, this strategy of sticking with what works is hard to argue with.  But on top of that, with two of their young stars, NM David Adelberg and NM Nick Thompson both having made fair rating gains in the past year along with newcomer FM Pedram Atoufi also having done so, the Scorpions should have some very good firepower on the bottom boards.

With their team having been so strong last season and unquestionably even stronger this season with similar lineups available to them with much improved players, Arizona definitely seems like a team to watch out for again.  And having done a bit better each season than the previous one throughout their years in the League, if that trend continues, the Scorpions might be a real threat to take down their first Championship.

Southern Arizona Chess Association (SACA) and the Arizona Chess Federation, Inc. (ACFI) both generously are sponsoring the Arizona Scorpions,
adding to the idea that this team is a part of the Arizona community.  The mission of both of these non-profit organizations is to promote chess in Arizona
,
and this sponsorship ideally fits the Scorpions. Many of the players on the Scorpions are well entrenched in Arizona Chess and its expansion
and have been a part of these organization for years.

The corporation Abstrax also generously offered an incredible site for the team to play at in the Phoenix area.
