There have been debates about allowing teams to make two roster switches over the season along with ho to help teams who suddenly have great difficulty in using strong lineups when one of their key players unexpectedly becomes unavailable in the latter part of the season. Starting in 2014, a couple of changes to how rosters will work will hopefully help alleviate both issues.
The new roster rules will be as such:
(1) Instead of ten players, each team will now begin the season with a nine player roster.
(2) At the conclusion of Week Three each team may add a tenth player to their roster. This new player must be announced by Thursday 9:00 PM EST of Week Three in order for them to be eligible to play in Week Four. If a team chooses to delay the addition of this new player past this deadline, likewise to use the additional player in any given week, the player must be revealed by Thursday 9:00 PM EST of the previous week.
(3) Under the same conditions, after Week Six, each team will have the option of adding an eleventh player to their roster.
Many teams have had issues in the past when one of their key players suddenly became unavailable for the remainder of the season (often due to moving) which left them in a difficult situation for submitting top tier lineups. We hope the ability to add new players in this fashion will help teams fill the gaps in their rosters which they might have been unable to anticipate at the start of the season.
