Rarely has there been a GOTY without at least one entry from SM Sammour-Hasbun, and this year is no exception with his strong attacking effort against GM Stripunsky giving him the final spot in the GOTY Contest.
Wildcard #7: GM Alex Stripunsky (NJ) vs SM Jorge Sammour-Hasbun (BOS) 0-1
Greg Shahade: This was the only game that didn’t get nominated as a Top Three choice to make the Game of the Year Contest. You can usually count on Sammour-Hasbun for a few Game of the Year candidates each season. His energetic attacking talents result in many crowd-pleasing victories, and this was no exception, as he unleashed a furious attack over a strong GM, and with the Black pieces no less.
