The Dallas Destiny become the 5th member of the USCL
The Dallas Destiny became the 5th and youngest team to
join the United States Chess League. Basing their team on players who
attend the University of Texas, Dallas, the Destiny have thus far put
together an impressive squad.
Their team manager is 2003
Samford Fellowship winner IM Dmitry Schneider (2488)
whom is thus far the highest rated team member. However their 2nd
ranked player is as close to Dmitry as you can be, as Indian IM Magesh
Panchanathan comes in just one point below Dmitry, at a clip of 2487.
Magesh has scored especially well recently and currently holds 2 GM
norms. Also with 2 GM norms is the Zambian IM and former 2nd place
finisher in the World Junior Championships, Amon Simutowe (2471). The
4th member of the squad is the always entertaining FM Andrei Zaremba
(2355). With this foundation of four rising young stars, the Destiny
will be one of the teams to beat in the inagural season of the United
States Chess League.
Their logo was revealed today and it seems to be a
combination of the star of the Dallas Cowboys from the NFL, and the
colors of the Dallas Mavericks from the NBA.
With their combination of youth, talent and chessplaying ability,
Dallas may prove themselves to be this year's team of Destiny.
