New Alternate Rules announced for the 2007 Season --------------------------------------------
by League Commissioner IM Greg Shahade
--------------------------------------------
Due to popular demand we are allowing each USCL team to carry two
alternates on their roster. The rules for these alternates are as
follows:
1. Two players of any rating may be named alternates at the beginning
of the season.
2. Each of these two players may play a maximum of 2 games, and a
combined total of 3 games. So if one alternate plays their maximum of
two games, the other alternate may only play one game.
3. Alternates will be ineligible for postseason play.
4. Once a player plays a game as an alternate, they will be unable to
be named to the official team roster later in the season, under any
circumstances. If an alternate has yet to play a game during the
season, they are still eligible to replace someone on the roster in
case of an emergency.
5. Alternates need not play only in case of emergency, they can be used
at any time throughout the regular season.
6. The alternates must either live in the USA or be an American
representative according to FIDE. The alternates should also reside in
either the state you are playing in, or within reasonable distance of
the hometown city. Any player whom is a GM or IM and is added as an
alternate only because
they may be "passing through" later in the season, will be declared
ineligible by the league.
7. Once the two alternates are named, they cannot be replaced under any
circumstances. They must be named before the season begins.
The league hopes that this new rule will help teams that have
some of their players travelling to tournaments occasionally or any
other conflicts. Click here to go back to
