Arizona Scorpions

Welcome to the Homepage of the 2008 expansion team, the Arizona Scorpions. Arizona is the first multi-city team in the USCL, as they will be playing some of their matches in Tuscon and the others in Phoenix.

The Arizona Scorpions join the United States Chess League with high hopes. As one of the only teams in the USCL without a GM on their roster, one may think their chances of success aren't so great. History would say otherwise however, as incredibly none of the three past USCL Champions have had a GM on their roster. This was true last season despite the fact that 9/12 league teams boasted GM's.

The Scorpions have quite a few strong IM's at the top of their lineup, in Rogelio Barcenilla, Levon Altounian and Mark Ginsburg. Backing them up is young FM Daniel Rensch, Internet blitz specialist, FM Robby Adamson and the teenage master Warren Harper, who is going to be a freshman at the University of Arizona this year. A lot will fall on the shoulders of team manager/4th board NM Leo Martinez both in his performance over the board and his performance managing and setting the lineups.

It will be fun to watch this new and exciting team in their USCL debut.
